This week we started seeing students at the Elementary School in Suva. We had so much fun interacting with the little children and examining their eyes. They love attention and always have big smiles and hugs for us. This school is not all LDS but is ran by the church and mostly all LDS teachers. It is a wonderful atmosphere to work in.
We love working with these little children. We are seeing up to 100 in a day. |
This 5 year old girl, with some of the worst astigmatism we've ever seen, was found to need glasses in the worst way.
This is the very reason we came to Fiji.
We can' image what her life would have
been like without wearing any glasses. |
On October 30th, it was World Children's Day, the school had a
big assembly, which Rick was asked to speak at. The kids
singing was absolutely amazing. They were so loud and animated,
they take great pride in their singing and really, truly love it. |

Meeting the Stake President & his Wife at the school.

Each class set off balloons for their special day. |
The kids just love playing at the playground. |
This little boy followed me around all morning... |
The children just love to come hold your hands, and give you hugs.
Although we miss our grand-kids, it's the next best thing to our own. |
After much delay, the 7000 glasses finally arrive by ship. Now the work begins to sort them all out so we can then hand them out to those who have been found to need glasses, so far. |
Rick and I take a Saturday to go exploring around the island. |
This is one of the typical homes in the villages, probably
nicer and bigger than many of them |
A very well kept village. |

Pictures just don't do it justice... |
Spent a great day at Takalana Bay, with the dolphins, snorkeling and hiking and eating great food. The Greenburg's joined us for the day |
Enjoyed our day at Takalana Bay. |
One of the little children of the family that runs the resort at Takalana Bay. |
Heading for a half hr turbulent boat ride out to visit the dolphins. We were soaking wet by the time we arrived, and a little sea sick. |
So close, we could almost reach out and touch the Dolphins. |
There were 80 dolphins in this area near the reef |
We took a nice dip in the clear water to snorkel on the reef. |
Trying to dry out clothing after a very turbulent boat ride |
Enjoying our freshly caught fish, rice, and salads with the Greenburgs. |
The fish that was caught on our way back from snorkeling,
it is called a "Sweet Lips". Never heard of it before! |
Still at Takalana Bay, we decided to go for a hike to the
swimming hole, our guide led the way.. Notice the bare feet. |
Made it to the swimming hole, we had been wet too much
already today, so no swimming for us, here! |
Met these two right on our path on our way back. |
Another great week here in Fiji.
Wow! It looks like the start of a marvellous adventure! Thanks for sharing.
